Welcome to the Applied Fisheries Management Lab at Missouri State University in Springfield, MO! Our lab couples traditional fisheries methods with modern quantitative approaches to produce meaningful and insightful research. This process allows us to inform our federal, state, and private agencies on the aquatic systems that they manage. Our lab is driven by the importance of the stakeholders and the interrelationships between these groups and the resource. The four main focuses of our lab are how aquatic systems are broadly affected by; invasive species, habitat degradation, climate change, and harvest. Recent projects have ranged from research with Northern Snakehead, Striped Bass, and Rainbow Trout to vital rates of Upper Mississippi River fishes throughout its entirety.

"Counting fish is a lot like counting trees, except they are invisible and they keep moving."

- John Shepherd
